2016 was a crazy year for me, if we are friends on Instagram, you’d definitely agree! I backpacked through Europe, walked hundreds of miles, took more trains, planes, and buses than I have in my entire life, I met countless new friends, had a few lovers, spent time with quality loved ones, and evolved into a better me!
I wanted to share some of my favorite Instagram posts from this year and hopefully inspire you to share yours too!
#BEST2016
Southern California Beach
I loved this little moment on a Southern California Beach with my little sis ❤ This was our goodbye hug before she jetted off to work with Americorps for a whole year. I was and still am so proud of her! Yes to independent, strong, compassionate women!!
LAX Airport
Catch Flights Not Feelings!! Our last picture at the LAX airport before jetting off on the trip of a lifetime. I have always been a traveler, but I didn’t know how much I really was capable of until I backpacked across 13+ European countries with my good friend, Mon.
SCOTLAND
Just call me Merida! Touchdown in the beautiful country of Scotland, the place that my heart calls home. I may be a SoCal girl, but something about Scotland makes my heart feel so full. SO GREEN. OMG, please do me a favor and put this place on your bucket list!
The Running of The Bulls on Calle Estafeta
Posing on our balcony for the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain! This was the best 5 seconds of my life! Mon and I dressed up in traditional outfits, drank sangria until the bulls came home, and had such a blast. It sure was a spectacle that I will be telling my grand-kids about someday.
Greece
Throwing what we know at the Parthenon in Greece! These Delta Zeta Greek girls made it home! Climbing the Acropolis and seeing the beauty and the history of the Parthenon was just life-changing. I walked upon the steps that our ancient ancestors walked upon. Sometimes I can’t believe I made it there. Miss you, Greece.
Ps. I Love You, Ireland!
I had been dreaming of exploring Ireland since before I could remember. When I landed in Ireland, I just wanted to get out and roam. I woke up early this day, found a bus that would take me to the Wicklow Mountains National Park, grabbed my camera, and just left. I remember walking up the mountain to this bridge, the same one where Holly meets her man in the movie, PS. I Love You, and feeling so free. “I made this happen on my own,” I thought. Independence!
On A Balcony in Paris
This photo is me finishing backpacking 13+ countries in 3 months! Pop that French champagne- I did it! It was a bright photo, but you can see the view of the Eiffel tower from my airbnb balcony, if you look close enough. I can still feel myself on that balcony today. #JetaimeParis
#FromWhereIStand on top of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington
I remember heading up the elevator of the space needle with my brother, who is afraid of heights. I was so proud that he conquered his fear and we got to share this moment together. As the sun set and the city lights started shining, we marveled at how lucky we felt to be there.
Grand Ole Opry
Traveling makes me jump for joy, and crossing bucket list items off while wearing turquoise cowboy boots is a big bonus! I booked a solo-travel trip to Nashville in November, to see if I could make it on my own exploring in the United States. Not only did I have the most amazing time in NASHVILLE, I cried at the Grand Ole Opry! I was standing in Country Music History!
Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
We may be smiling and laughing in this photo, but inside we are crying. On this day, at the famous Cliffs of Moher, it was a million degrees below zero, it was raining and hailing, and the wind was so strong that it almost whipped us off of these cliffs! After a few tries, we finally got a cute photo of my little Delta Zeta family. My travel sisters.
Oia Cliffs in Santorini, Greece
Even with all this traveling, I can still get swept away in moments. Standing on the tallest cliffs in Santorini, looking down at the bright blue water melting into the horizon, I felt lucky. Not too many people get to see this in their lifetime. I will never forget how hot the sun felt that day, how blue the sea was, and how blindingly white the buildings are. Oia is like nothing else I’ve ever seen. A true gem.
