Why Travel Is Great For Single People

Hello loves! As it’s Valentines Day, I wanted to talk to all my single ladies out there! If you are feeling a bit down  or annoyed during these holidays, just remember that you are amazing and traveling is the perfect cure for those single-blues! Here’s why:

Travel lets you meet people you wouldn’t normally meet

If you’re single, embrace that #hostellife! Hostels are hubs for other single travelers, like yourselves, to meet each other and make connections. You never know if your 3 bunk mates will be the girls you head out on the town with or if one of those guys in the lobby will become your soulmate one day. Meeting people from other states and countries will shake up your life in unimaginable ways.

Travel gets you out of your comfort zone

Nothing says bravery like solo travel! Get out there and learn to manage on your own! Learn to translate dutch signs on your own, navigate the parisian metros solo, and climb mountains to see spectacular views-all on your own. Trust your gut and do one risky thing each day.

You have great photos if you do decide to try online dating

You’ll never have to wonder which photos put you in the best light. Nothing says I am a strong, confident, fun person like a travel pic! Show off that photo of you laughing on the Ferris Wheel in Barcelona or conquering the thousands of steps at Castelo Dos Mouros in Portugal.

You learn to be independent and brave

Nothing says independence like having to rely on only yourself (and kind strangers!) to survive while traveling. Learn to eat alone (and like it!) and just people watch. There is something beautiful about eating alone and just enjoying.

You may realize how small your problems are

When you are on top of the Eiffel Tower or at the top of the Cliffs of Moher, you may realize that the world is BIG. You might realize that worrying about your current relationship status probably isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of life. I know it doesn’t feel like that, but it’s always great to get a little perspective on the things that stress us out. You can definitely be happy being single.

You realize how many people there are in this entire world

One of the fun parts of traveling is falling in love with strangers on the metros or in random bars every day! Planning your potential future with a new person every day helps you realize that there are many people on this earth! Don’t worry about the one back home that may have broken your heart, there are amazing things to come, whether you are single or not.

I have no idea who this is, but we had fun on a boat once haha!

Travel is a great treatment for heartbreak

Nothing helps treat heartbreak like a fantastic vacation and a pina colada on the beach! Refresh your heart with a little me-time while you explore ancient ruins, take a street-art tour, or eat all the chocolate in Switzerland! Traveling can distract you from your heartbreak until you’re ready to get through it.

You can go where and when you please

Setting up your own itinerary, deciding where to eat, and what souvenirs to bring home is just so much easier when you are solo-traveling! You won’t have anyone asking you to compromise your time. Don’t get me wrong, traveling with people is great, but there’s something special about doing it all solo.

Travel gives you time to think

Eventually, you will wonder about relationships while you are traveling. If you’re in Barcelona or Paris, you’ll be seeing couples kissing everywhere and maybe that will bring the little pangs back into your heart. I know it did for me. When you are taking those late night trains, you’ll have time to think about what you really want in life. Are you ready for a relationship? Would you rather travel and just enjoy your solo-time now? You’ll be so much more secure in your wants when you have time to really sit and think about it.
