You ever get that itch that you just need to scratch? You start looking at more and more travel photos and dreaming about laying on a beach somewhere? That’s how it feels when I’ve been plugging away at my new for 4 months now. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do! I just love the rush of jumping in the car and heading out, through the mountains and past the coast even more.

The trick about spontaneous vacations is actually planning ahead! Does that seem redundant? I have been planning to visit the Flower Fields of Carlsbad for a couple of years now, I just never got around to LITERALLY planning it. That’s when I felt the itch to get away.
So, I call up my new BF (aww) and tell him to pack a bag and get to sleep early on Friday night. (He likes to travel too!)
If you wanna feel that rush of adrenaline start to kick in, pack a bag at night and try to sleep early. It’s that same feeling of waiting to go to Disneyland the next day!
We woke up at 5am, showered, got ready (an hour process for me because duh, Instagram π) and took off. We stopped along the way to have an early breakfast with my two best friends, B+D, and got back on the road.
After winding down highways along Pacific Coast Highway, loud CAR-aoke, and random car games, we made it to the fields.
It was beautiful! The sun was shining, the flowers were in full bloom, and the constant scent of flowers was relaxing. It’s the perfect place to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Even my solo travelers would enjoy a day here!
There were wagon rides, which Boyfriend so kindly splurged on, fresh strawberry shake shacks, sweet pea mazes, and of course, the flower fields.
After we were RANUNCULOUS-LY Tired (see what I did there?) of marveling at flowers, we actually took the extra step to drive another 45 minutes down to San Diego to stay one night.
This is Seaport Village in San Diego. Definitely worth a couple hours of your time!
Just because you can’t get away for weeks at a time doesn’t mean you can’t have that vacation feeling. Decide to get out and explore on your next free weekend.
To Recap: The best ways to get that VACATION-Y feeling, even in one day
- Pack a bag and try to sleep EARLY
- Jet off extra early and make the most of your sunlight
- Loud music, long highway stints, car games, and a patient co-pilot π
- Enjoying every bit that they day and night has to offer
- After you get home, start thinking of your next day-cation!

OMG so many gorgeous flowers. I would have to take a lot of allergy meds before I visited. But it would sure be worth it.

What a great weekend getaway! And only 45 minutes from San Diego?! I will definitely be doing this next spring. We love spring road trips to see flowers. We live in the middle of the US, so we usually make a road trip to Texas to see the bluebonnet fields in bloom. Those are really pretty too!
